The Advent Calendar

Posted in Autoren / poets, Svetlana Cârstean by lyrikline on 1. December 2012

The advent calendar is a pre-Christmas custom practised in many countries to sweeten the time leading up to Christmas and make the wait seem not quite so long, especially for the children. From December 1 to 24 a calendar “window” for each day opens to reveal a picture, chocolate or little presents.

We couldn’t tell you know who first came up with the crazy notion of using this idea for poets, but we think that after all it’s a really good way not to lose sight of our poets while the roadworks are going on. So we’d like to wish you much joy and happiness reading the next 24 new poets in December. Find a new surprise every day!

The first calendar window takes us to Romania, which celebrates

its National Day on 1 December. The new Romanian poet  is

Svetlana Cârstean

(with translations into Catalan, English, French, German, Italian and Swedish)

She was born in 1969 and is an important voice of younger Romanian poetry. Highly emotional and playful, her poems have brought her much attention at home and abroad.
