Readings to remember: Amiri Baraka

Posted in Amiri Baraka by lyrikline on 7. March 2014

Here comes another legendary black American poet performing with musicians.
The poetry and writing of Amiri Baraka (October 7, 1934 – January 9, 2014) has attracted, also within the black community, both extreme praise and condemnation, and has caused not just one controversy over the years.

The poem he performs in this clip is dedicated to Bob Marley and is called ‘Wailers’

.

Read the text of the poem here.

Amiri always has a lot to say and would make people think. Well he was not always loved, people are learning to appreciate his genuineness now that he has passed. This is one of my favorite poems too. Thank you for sharing.
