reaching lyrikline poet no. 1000

So, people, we’re heading towards the next lyrikline milestone, so to say, reaching poet no. 1000 on lyrikline quite soon. Yesterday it was only 10 poets more to go, but with yesterday’s uploaded poet Nicholas Behr only nine poets are left.

Of course, we want to celebrate the occasion of the 1000th poet and will therefore organize a »Listen to the poet!« reading on October 18, 2014 which will take place at the ZEBRA Poetry Film Festival in Berlin. *
We will bring on stage poets who already have their poetry on Lyrikline (and one who will have quite soon) and whose poems have been the basis for a poetry film shown at the festival. These poets will participate in the event:

poet and playwright, born 10 December, 1980 in Klaipėda, Lithuania.

Gabrielė Labanauskaitė uses song, spoken word and video as a vehicle for her poetry.  She is the founder of the poetry/music/video collaboration “Avaspo” (Audiovisual Asp of Poetry) and organises the annual festival “Tarpfest” (In-between Festival), Lithuania’s only audiovisual poetry festival in Vilnius, Kaunas and Klaipėda.

renshi.eu – A European Dialogue in Verse

We are happy to end our summer slump on this blog with the presentation of a very unique project which was published on lyrikline.org today.  From January to April 2012, poets from all 27 countries of the European Union and the accession country Croatia wrote a chain poem or, as we call it, Renshi to Europe, for the Berlin Poetry Festival.

In renshi.eu, the last line of each poem became the first of the next, thus connecting each poet to his/her predecessor. There were five groups with six to seven poets in each, creating five side-by-side chain poems by authors with 23 different native languages. Greece, as both the focus of the economic crisis and the birthplace of European culture and democracy, was the jumping off point for this Renshi. The Greek poet Yannis Stiggas’s poem was used as the starting point and basis for all five groups. At the end, he also wrote a final verse that reflected on the extant traces of his own lines in the writing of the other authors.
